For the UAE, pack light clothes that cover your shoulders and knees, a layer for strong air conditioning, sun protection and a UK-style Type G plug adapter. Add a warm layer for winter evenings, and in summer, when it tops 40°C, loose cotton or linen and a wide-brimmed hat.

Choose your month of travel, how many days you are staying, what you plan to do and who is coming with you. The generator builds a checklist from Dubai's average weather for that month and the UAE's dress norms, then adds items for each activity and for children or a baby.
You can tick items off as you pack. The list is a starting point: add anything personal, and remove what you do not need.
Some things go in every bag, whatever the season:
These are Dubai's monthly averages from NOAA climate normals for 1991 to 2020. Sea temperatures are rounded figures from general tables.
| Month | Day | Night | Sea |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 24°C | 15°C | 21°C |
| April | 34°C | 22°C | 25°C |
| July | 42°C | 31°C | 32°C |
| October | 36°C | 25°C | 30°C |
In the cooler months, roughly December to February, evenings and the desert can feel chilly, so a light jacket and long trousers are useful. Spring and autumn are warm. From about May to September the heat is over 40°C by day and humid, so plan outdoor time for early morning or evening. See the full picture on our UAE weather by month page.
A couple travels to Dubai in January for 7 days with two children. They plan city sightseeing, the beach and a visit to a mosque. Their list has:
That is 10 + 3 + 2 + 4 + 3 + 4 = 26 items. The weather line reads: Dubai averages 24°C by day and 15°C at night, sea around 21°C. Pleasant for the beach, but a jumper for the evening is a good idea.
The UAE is relaxed for visitors, but it helps to dress with respect. The general rules, as set out by Visit Dubai:
Our UAE etiquette and dress code guide explains what is expected in more detail.
Light clothes that cover your shoulders and knees work for malls and public places. Swimwear is fine at beaches and pools, and mosques require arms and legs covered, plus a headscarf for women.
You need a Type G adapter, the UK-style plug with three rectangular pins. The voltage is 230V, so check that your devices support it.
In the cooler months, roughly December to February, a light jacket or sweater is useful for evenings and the desert. All year, a thin layer helps with strong air conditioning indoors.
Knee-length shorts are fine in most public places. Very short shorts are better kept for the beach, the pool or your hotel.
Loose, light-coloured cotton or linen clothes, a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, a water bottle and electrolyte sachets. The heat is over 40°C, so avoid being outdoors at midday.
